R.S. Grey gives the good old enemies-to-lovers troupe a fresh, witty and romantic spin in her newest release Hotshot Doc.

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.
I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

Confession time: As much as I love Fantasy and Sci-fi, sometimes they get too heavy for me and I need something light and fluffy and just plain sweet to counteract it. R.S. Grey is one of my go-to authors for that particular need. Honestly, Rachel (name twinsie!) hasn’t let me down, so my falling in love with Hotshot Doc shouldn’t be a surprise anymore.

But, oh my, surprise it did!

At this point, I should warn you that I will be gushing over this book BIG TIME! I loved everything about Hotshot Doc – from the characters to the pop culture references to the humor. There’s just so much to love in this book.

This story will have you smiling that goofy smile and laughing throughout its entirety. You have Bailey. She’s awkward, mouthy and a hardworking big sister dedicated to giving Josie the best life she could give her. She had to grow up faster than her peers, her parents dying suddenly in a car crash, and take on daunting responsibilities at such a young age. Because of this, Bailey had to make a few detours, leaving pre-med to train as a surgeon’s assistant instead, and she does a mighty fine job.

Then you have Matt, aka Hotshot Doc, a moniker he rightfully earns. He has a very strict work ethic, married to his job and dedicated to helping kids with difficult cases of scoliosis. He’s earned quite a reputation of running off his surgical assistants, that is until he meets Bailey.

Starting out as enemies and ending out as lovers, I loved seeing Bailey and Matt come together. Bailey brought out the kind heart Matt hides from the rest of the world, while Matt gives Bailey the love and the care no one else has given her. These two are definitely swoony, but it was funny reading their attempts to pull the brakes at their budding relationship (mostly Bailey) and how they tease each other (mostly Matt.) Add Josie, Bailey’s sassy and bookworm of a little sister, into the mix and good luck holding the laughs in!

Hotshot Doc definitely earns a place in my top R.S. Grey books. It’s right up there with old faves  The Duet and The Allure of Julian Lefray. If you’re looking for something funny and romantic to read, this book is for you. I cannot recommend it enough.
