Music Mondays: “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog

Hey, there Monday, and hello October!

I came off from night shift, and as is, I’m only running on a few hours of sleep (two hours to be exact), and it’s this sleep deprived state that’s bringing you my Music Mondays pick. I know 90% of the time all I’m talking about is reading and books or thinking about reading and books. I try not to tweet much about politics, both local and international, but there’s just so much a person can take, and all the stuff I’m reading on Twitter, local and international news channels are just making me angry. And so, this…

I love this song from Temple of the Dog. I think it just fits the mood and situation we all are in right now. It’s hard not to be angry these days when the people at the top, the same ones elected to protect and uphold your rights seem not to care.

Anywho, cut me this. I’ll be back to talking about bookish stuff soon. I’m actually writing my wrap-up post for September. Hopefully, I get to post it today, or some time early this week. I also have a review scheduled to post tomorrow, so that’s something I’m looking forward to because I loved that book (the one I reviewed, I mean).

Alright, that’s it for me for now. Be kind to one another.

Hello, everyone!

I hope your Monday is treating you well so far. Mine was, well, let’s just say, challenging. I’m writing this entry a bit later than I usually do. It’s already half past eight in the evening where I’m at, and my body is already telling me to shut down for the day (which, I promise, I will heed right after I get this post up).

I don’t talk much about myself because, for starters, I don’t want to bore you with the boring details of my life, and, second, I’m just awkward as hell and was never really good at being in the spotlight, what more shining that light on myself. I’m a backstage kind of person, the one who has the clipboard and bosses everyone behind the curtains, not the actresses.

Anyway (see, I already went on a useless tangent in the paragraph above), today was just really stressful for me. I came back to work today after being gone for a week (I attended a post-graduate certificate course last week). And, what do I come back to? Problems, a handful of them, and not even ones related to my line of work. To think that they all started because of a petty story started by someone who then told another someone who  then told HR. To cut the story short, it’s one big mess and I have to protect my fellow nurses who held the fort while I was gone. Truly, I didn’t expect that I’ll be spending half of my first day back writing back responses to HR. I’m not going into detail because it still pisses me of, but I’ll leave this thought for everyone, something I already said on Twitter: Please, remember that the people who take care of you – doctors, nurses, medtechs, etc – are also human beings. We get also get tired. We also get hurt. We also get mad. We also get sick. Keep that in mind the next time you rail at them.

Okay, rant over, now have some Sum 41 to make today a bit happier.

Happy Monday everyone!

My MM pick today is kind of inspired by the book I recently finished, Strange Grace by Tessa Graton.

Strange Grace was all sorts of wonderful! Beautifully haunting and just richly imagined, and I thought this song by Agnes Obel pretty much reflects mood of this story.

If you’re lucky enough to have read Strange Grace ahead of its release tomorrow, lucky you! If you haven’t, please, please get this book. I highly recommend it! I cannot write my review of the book yet because my company sent me to a professional convention and, well, I wouldn’t have a lot of time (and writing reviews do take a lot of time, something I’d want to get to discuss in a future post someday). I expect to get down to it later this weekend though.

I hope you enjoyed my song pick today. Here’s me wishing you all a great week ahead. Don’t forget to be kind to others and to yourself.

Happy Monday!

I feel like I haven’t done this meme in a long time. The past couple of days have been busy. I’ve written back to back reviews and author Q&As for two blog tours, and I feel really good about it. Before I went back to blogging, I had a long writing rut. Well, not so much as a rut but a block actually. It really feel good to be back writing regularly again. Hopefully, it translates to my WIPs.

Anyway, I’ve been fueling writer self with cup after cup of coffee, dark chocolates and energetic indie rock music. I’ll be sharing one of the songs on my currently #working playlist in this Monday’s MM feature.

This is an old song. I don’t recall exactly when it was released (it’s included in The Joy Formidable‘s first album The Big Roar) but it’s been on my music vault for years now. It’s just one of those songs that never fades. I love the energy of this song. I especially love the drums. It just brings this frenetic energy into the song.

I hope you enjoy my pick today. Here’s me wishing you a productive and happy week ahead.

Hey there! Happy Monday!

My schedule at work for the last two weeks have been crazy and I was just so exhausted, so I planned to give myself some time off come the weekend. And, yay for me, I did! I started a new book and finished writing the review for the one I recently finished. Then, the rest of the Saturday and Sunday, I just spent catching up with The Crown (all caught up now and ready for season 3), Outlander (halfway through season 3) and Sense8 (finally watched that satisfying 2-hour finale). But I craved some semi-old movies so I put on Legally Blonde, which leads me to my MM pick for today.

This is such an infectious, happy song, and hopefully it lifts your moods up the same way it does mine this Monday.
