First Line Fridays: “Open Road Summer” by Emery Lord

If you’ve seen my most recent review, you know that I was not quite happy with the last book I’ve finished. I really just needed something happy after it, so I picked up an old favorite – Open Road Summer by Emery Lord.

The fans scream for her, but they don’t really know the girl on the magazine covers—the girl with the guitar and the easy smile. Her given name is Delilah, and they think she goes by Lilah. But anyone who really knows my best friend calls her Dee.

I can’t believe it’s been four years since I read this book. 25-year old me certainly grinned and laughed and swooned a lot when I first read it, so it’s really no surprise that I still have the same reactions to it. Open Road Summer was just that cute!!! 😍😍😍

Still don’t believe me? Here’s one more line to further prove my point:

His eyes are somewhere between gray and blue, and his hair is somewhere between brown and blond, and I am somewhere between hostile and attracted.

Okay, one more (because I just can’t help myself) :

If we could capture feelings like we capture pictures, none of us would ever leave our rooms. It would be so tempting to inhabit the good moments over and over again. But I don’t want to be the kind of person who lives backwardly, who memorializes moments before she’s finished living in them. So I plant my feet here on this hillside beside a boy who is undoing me, and I kiss him back like I mean it. And, God help me, with the sky wrapped around us in every direction, I do mean it.

Swoon 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Sneak this book into your summer reading if you haven’t yet. I definitely recommend putting on some country-era Taylor Swift in the background while you read this book. Trust me, you need this!!!

Today, I’m sharing the first line from River to Redemption by Ann H. Gabhart over on my blog, so I’ll share with you here the first line from chapter 12 of the same book.

    Happy Friday!😁

My First Line Fridays comes from a book I’m planning on reading very soon, Shelter In Place by Nora Roberts.

On Friday, July 22, 2005, Simone Knox ordered a large Fanta – orange – to go with her popcorn and Swedish Fish. The choice, her standard night at the movies fare, changed her life, and very likely saved it. Still, she’d never drink Fanta again.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😎📚📚

Lol, love “somewhere between hostile and attracted!”

Great first line! Today, I’m sharing the first line from a book recommended by my daughter: Matched by Ally Condie. “Now that I’ve found the way to fly, which direction should I go into the night?” I don’t think I’m going to read that one, but she sure liked it 🙂
